HANDE SUNGUR
Researcher-in-training
Biography:
I
received my B.A in Psychology at Koc University, Istanbul, in 2007.
After graduation, I obtained my M.A in Cognitive Psychology
at Bogazici University, Istanbul, in 2010. An area I am interested
in is the video-game research. During my M.A, I studied how
expertise on action video games affects the visual system. In
addition to previously shown visuo-attentional improvements for
video-game players, for the first time we were able to show
improvements with the visual representation of
objects.
My PhD study, which is going to start in
September 2010, will combine cognitive psychology with more social
and possibly neuroscience research. I will be working with Prof.
Gün Semin in the area of embodied cognition. A possible research
topic for me would be investigating how distinctive hedonically
charged physical features of environmental contexts (temperature,
touch, smell) influence judgments about persons, and objects and
the processes mediating this relationship. Additionally,
investigating the possible role language plays in the relationship
between these physical features and
judgments.
